Chaat, samosas and jalebi at your doorstep!

There’s something so wonderful about eating hot jalebis and mouthwatering paani puri by the roadside made by your local street food vendor, isn’t there? Something we have all missed out on in these last few months that we’ve been at home due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Now, there’s some good news in store for all you chaat lovers, as the government, on Monday, tied up with food delivery platform Swiggy to bring all the street food favourites right to your doorstep . This will help the vendors too, as many have faced losses due to the strict safety and social distancing measures in place. They will be helped by the government in terms of loans, pricing, hygiene, packaging and more.

To start with, the government has decided to run a pilot – which is like an experiment – with 250 such vendors across five cities – Ahmedabad, Chennai, Delhi, Indore and Varanasi. If successful, vendors from other cities will be brought on board too!

So next time you’re craving some fresh street food as an evening snack after all those hours of studying, you don’t have to step out of your home at all. However, remember to sanitise all parcels and wash your hands well before digging in!
