Owliver’s Scrapbook #53 min read
Reading Time: 3 minutes
Owliver has partnered with his friends from PhilARThropy to bring a DIY to you every fortnight!
About PhilARThropy: PhilARThropy is a social organisation that takes art education and creation to under resourced communities by working in low income academic spaces across India).
The activities need minimum supplies, and you do not have to worry about perfecting it— this is your scrapbook. Have fun with it!
This week, we will be creating still life!
What is still life?
A still life is an artwork of a collection of (mostly) non-living objects from ordinary life.
Artists arrange a set up, and create it on paper from life!
So, you can create a still life out of the objects on your study table, dressing table, dining table, or even your kitchen sink!
Don’t worry about precision. Remember, the page from our scrapbook on portraits? Artists did something similar with still life. Have fun with it like they did!
Here’s some inspiration:
Still Life with Two Apples, Edouard Manet

Jug, candle, and enamel pan, Pablo Picasso

Paris, France
Untitled, Willem De Kooning

Now, that we have seen artists have fun, let’s don their hats:
All you need is a friend (and pencil, paints, and of course, a paper).
Steps:
1. Put all the things in your house that are blue on a table in a way that you like.
2. Observe the image before you. How does light play with the object? Consider proportion. How big is the fruit in relation to the fruit basket? Is there a shadow? Which direction is it following?
3. Paint your very own blue still life! Don’t worry about creating something of a perfect mirror image.
Congratulations, you have just meditated for the last half hour!
While you wait for us to be back with more fun stuff, play more rounds with your friends and family and see how all of you bring imagination to life— and share them with us at hello@owliverspost.com.
We will be waiting for them…
