South Africa 178/2 (Lee 83*, Goswami 2-38) beat India 177/9 (Raj 50, Ismail 3-28) by eight wickets

Despite captain Mithali Raj’s half-century, hosts India could only post a paltry score of 177 against a disciplined South African attack in the first ODI at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.

South Africa chased down the target with ease with 59 deliveries and eight wickets to spare.  Openers Lizelle Lee  and Laura Wolvaardt set up the chase brilliantly with a 169-run opening stand.

Giannis Antetokounmpo was named the game’s MVP after shooting 16 of 16 for 35 points. It was the most baskets without a miss in All-Star Game history. Stephen Curry chipped in with 28 points, while Damian Lillard scored 32. Captain LeBron played all of 12 minutes and scored four points.

COVID Forces PSL Postponement

The 2021 season of the Pakistan Super League has been postponed due to rising cases of COVID-19.

In a statement on Thursday, the Pakistan Cricket Board confirmed the development. “Following a meeting with the team owners and considering the health and wellbeing of all participants is paramount, the Pakistan Cricket Board has decided to postpone the HBL Pakistan Super League 6 with immediate effect. The decision was made after seven cases were reported in the competition, which had started on 20 February,” the press release stated.

“The PCB, as an immediate step, will focus on the safe and secure passage of all participants, and arrange repeat PCR tests, vaccines and isolation facilities to the six participating sides.”

There are still 14 league games remaining in the season.

India 365 (Pant 101, Sundar 96, Stokes 4-89) beat England 205 (Stokes 55, Patel 4-68) and 135 (Lawrence 50, Ashwin 5-47, Patel 5-48) by an innings and 25 runs.

India confirmed their spot in the final of the World Test Championship with a comprehensive win over England at Ahmedabad in the fourth and the final Test of the series.

The WTC final is scheduled between June 18 and 22.

Indian spinners R. Ashwin and Axar Patel were the wreckers-in-chief with the ball yet again, picking up 17 wickets between them.

Rishabh Pant and Washington Sundar batted exceptionally well not only to hand India a match-winning first innings lead but also to prove that the playing surface wasn’t quite as unplayable as the English batsman made it out to be.

R Ashwin was conferred with the Man of the Series award for his tally of 32 wickets and 189 runs.

Windies Prove T20I Mettle with Win Over the Lankans

Third T20I:
West Indies 134/7 (Simmons 26, Pooran 23, Sandakan 3-29) beat Sri Lanka 131/4 (Chandimal 54*, Bandara 44*, Allen 1-13) by three wickets

The decider with the series tied with one win apiece appeared to be entering the damp squib territory half-way through. However, the hosts West Indies found a way to complicate the run chase and finally seal the win with a flurry of sixes towards the end.

18 runs were required from the final two overs with seven wickets in hand. All-rounder Fabian Allen struck crucially, struck three sixes in the penultimate over and took his team home.

Rangers Win First Title in 10 Years

Celtic’s iron grip on the Scottish Premier League title was finally broken by the Rangers after they confirmed their position as champions for the first time in ten years.

Led by manager Steven Gerrard, the Rangers are unbeaten in the league so far and have amassed 88 points from 32 games.

The Gers’ last league title came in 2011 before they were plagued by financial difficulties and were demoted to Scotland’s bottom tier in 2012. They returned back to the top-flight only in 2016.

Lewa’s hattrick & Haaland’s brace lights up Klassiker

Bayern Munich secured an important win over Borussia Dortmund to keep their two-point lead at the top of the table.

It was an exciting game as Bayern came back after conceding two goals in the first half, to win the game with few minutes to go for the final whistle.

Dortmund made a flying start with in-form striker Erling Haaland scoring two quickfire goals. However, Dortmund’s leaky defence couldn’t handle Robert Lewandowski as he raised his tally to 31 goals this season with a timely hattrick. Leon Goretzka  scored the winner  with a precise volley from inside the penalty box.
