Mithali Raj Creates History

It has been an eventful week for Indian skipper Mithali Raj. On Friday, she became the first Indian woman to score 10,000 international runs. A couple of days later, she became the first ever woman cricketer to score 7000 ODI runs. She reached the milestones in the ongoing ODI series between India and South Africa.

Mithali now has 7019 runs from 213 ODIs in a career spanning 21 years and 261 days so far, featuring seven centuries and 54 half-centuries. She has featured in 311 international matches in her career.

Individual achievements aside, it has been a series to forget for hosts India. South Africa women have taken an unassailable 3-1 lead in the five-match series.

In the fourth ODI, Punam Raut’s first innings century went in vain as South Africa chased down a record target of 267 with 1.2 overs and 7 wickets to spare. The top order of Lizelle Lee, Laura Wolvaardt, Lara Gondall and Mignon du Preez all scored half-centuries to set up the victory.

Eric Lamela’s Rabona

A cynic would say Eric Lamela would rather try something audacious than shoot with his right.
A struggling Tottenham team took  an unlikely lead from a truly stellar effort from their Argentine winger in the North London derby against Arsenal. However, Lamela’s antics weren’t enough for Spurs to win the game as Arsenal came from behind to claim a 2-1 victory over their bitter rivals.

Cricket

Kishan Shines on Debut
Ishan Kishan’s fearless batting in first international stint lit up the world’s largest cricket stadium as India bounced back from a heavy defeat in the first match to level the series.

Chasing a score of 165 for victory in the second T20I, opener Kishan’s entertaining knock of 56 and skipper Virat Kohli’s unbeaten 73 helped India to a comfortable win.

West Indies Whitewash Sri Lanka

Following a closely fought T20I series, hosts West Indies went on to win all three ODIs against Sri Lanka to prove their limited-overs prowess.

Shai Hope starred for the Windies with one century and two fifties in the three games. Sri Lanka are yet to get a point in the World Cup Super League and they’ve now lost six games in a row against the Carribean team.

Messi & Ronaldo knocked out

For the first time since 2005, both Lionel Messi & Cristiano Ronaldo will not feature in the quarter finals of the Champions League. While Messi’s Barcelona lost to Paris St. Germain, Ronaldo’s Juventus failed to overcome Portugal champions Porto.

Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund have qualified for the quarter finals after defeating RB Leipzig and Sevilla respectively.

Mumbai City Complete Double; Win ISL Final

Mumbai City FC claimed their maiden Indian Super League (ISL) title with a 2-1 win over ATK Mohun Bagan at the Fatorda Stadium. Bipin Singh’s 90th minute winner sealed the deal for Mumbai who earlier fell behind when David Williams stroked the ball into the net in the 18th minute.
