Oh the lengths we’ll go to…. to put our name in a book?3 min read
Reading Time: 3 minutesHave you ever wanted to be the fastest, best, shortest, or longest? Have you needed to set a record that outdoes the rest, regardless of what it is? Well, there is a book for people who do, and it’s called the Guinness Book of World Records. Every year, thousands of people try to get their name in this book. They try everything, from wearing the most socks on one foot to solving the Rubiks cube the maximum number of times on a unicycle. A few of them even make it to the list.

Think with Owliver:
But, why do all that just for your name to appear in some book! Outside of it, does anyone even care about your achievement? I mean, the people at the Guinness Book of World Records do declare that you’re “officially amazing,” but is it worth all the trouble?

Meet this 29-year-old diver called Sadam Al Kilany. He recently spent six whole days or a total of 145 hours underwater in Dahab in the Red Sea!! Kilany broke a previous record that he had set himself, during which he spent 142 hours underwater! He has now submitted footage of his time beneath the water’s surface to the Guinness Book of World Records.
Owliver’s Obscure Observation: Kilany performs all sorts of activities like exercising and painting during his time under the sea. He even got engaged to his wife underwater!
Watch Kilany make the largest painting ever made underwater.
So why did Kilany go through all this trouble?
He had to practice and learn how to eat and drink underwater for a full year before he took his final dive!! He even put his health at risk as he had to cut his plan for 150 hours slightly short due to health concerns. Well, the answer is that he just wanted to. He wanted to see what he could do and whether he could break this previously held record. He wanted to test the limits of his mind and body and see how far it could go before becoming too weak to handle itself. Perhaps, he had other reasons as well. Maybe even he was unaware of them. But, his trip most definitely made an “officially amazing” story.
