Movie of the Week

Yup, this whale is right! We’re going underwater. Craig Foster, a moviemaker and a diver, is sharing the Atlantic Ocean with us. But we aren’t just going to observe an exotic and strange universe under the sea. No! We are going to meet a gooey liquid creature that seeps through the cracks of everything, including our hearts. This liquid creature is a highly intelligent common octopus that left Craig awe-struck and obsessed.

Craig’s Octopus Teacher

Owliver’s Obscure Observation: This movie format is known as a documentary. Everything that happens in this movie is real! And most of the videos underwater were taken by Craig himself.

Craig lives in South Africa by the Cape of Storms. He braves the violent waters to swim and explore the world beneath the sea. He does this for a year until one day, he discovers kelp forests underwater. Yes, that stuff SpongeBob loves.

In the still waters of those forests, Craig meets his teacher and best friend…. and she is covered in hundreds of shells.

Is that….alive?

When Craig first meets her, she’s afraid and runs away. But a month later, it’s a different story altogether. She makes him giggle as she uses the thousand suction tubes on her arms to play on his chest. Every day, she greets him with a handshake and even travels with him when he rushes to the surface of the water to take a breath. Soon Craig is no longer a visitor. He learns that he is just an odd member of the underwater family, who must leave every few minutes to take a breath.

Owliver’s Obscure Observation: The Octopus’s brain is so large that it’s not only in its head but also in its tentacles. Oh! And an Octopus has no bones.

Now isn’t that a friendship you want as well? Well, until you meet a friendly octopus, you have to watch this movie to know how to go about the whole affair. Also, the beautiful scenes and cold water are definitely going to leave you looking like a boneless pile of goose bumps.
