The T20 World Cup kicked off in the UAE this past week. Australia and Sri Lanka registered wins by chasing down targets in their opening games against South Africa and Bangladesh respectively.

England beat West Indies by six wickets in their opening fixture. The defending champions were bowled out for their lowest T20I score of 55 and England chased down the target in 8.4 overs.
Pakistan finally registered their first-ever victory over India in a World Cup game. It was a clinical performance from the men in green as they thrashed India by 10 wickets. An unbeaten 152-run partnership between openers Babar Azam (68*)and Mohammad Rizwan (79*) saw Pakistan romp home with 13 deliveries to spare.

Scotland were thrashed by 130 runs by Afghanistan in their maiden appearance at this stage of the tournament.
Scotland were bowled out for 60 in 10.2 overs, chasing 191 in Sharjah. Afghanistan spinners made merry as Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Rashid Khan finished with figures of 5-20 & 4-9 respectively.

Tom Brady Sets New Record 

Tom Brady, the seven-time Super Bowl champion found Mike Evans late in the first quarter for his 600th career touchdown pass during the game between Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Chicago Bay. He is the first player to reach 600 touchdown passes.

Brady was one of four quarterbacks to surpass 500 touchdown passes, along with Drew Brees (571), Peyton Manning (539) and Brett Favre (508).

The RPSG Ventures conglomerate bid more than $930m (£675.2m) at an auction in Dubai to set up a team in the city of Lucknow.

CVC Capital partners promised more than $690m (£501m) to set up a team in Ahmedabad. This team would play their home games at the world’s biggest cricket stadium – a 132,000 capacity.

The 2022 IPL season will have 10 teams and 74 matches, with each team having seven home and seven away matches.

The LA Lakers registered their first victory of the season after consecutive losses, in a 121-118 game against the Memphis Grizzlies. Carmelo Anthony top-scored for the Lakers with 28 points.
Anthony Davis had 22 points and four blocks. LeBron James finished with 19 points. Anthony moved into ninth on the NBA’s career scoring list with 27,423 points.

Stephen Curry scored 27 points and became the first player in Warriors franchise history to reach 5,000 assists, helping Golden State beat Sacramento 119-107. Curry had 10 assists and seven rebounds. Jordan Poole added 22 points, and Draymond Green had 14 points, six rebounds and seven assists.

The Hornets shocked the Nets, 111-95  to improve to 3-0 for the first time.

Miles Bridges had 32 points and nine rebounds and LaMelo Ball had 18 points, six rebounds and five assists for the Hornets.

Kevin Durant scored 38 points for the Nets, who fell to 1-2. James Harden had 15 points, eight assists and seven rebounds for Brooklyn.

The Milwaukee Bucks improved to 3-1 while Indiana Pacers dropped to 1-3 after Giannis’ team won 119-109. Giannis Antetokounmpo’s 30 points and Khris Middleton’s 27 secured a comfortable win.

English Premier League

Liverpool scored four of their five goals in the first half, as they beat Manchester United 5-0 at Old Trafford to claim their biggest win over their arch-rivals. Mohammad Salah scored the first-ever Premier League hat-trick by an opposition player at Old Trafford. 

Chelsea and Manchester City registered wins in their respective games this past weekend. Mason Mount scored a hat-trick in table toppers Chelsea’s 7-0 win over Norwich. 

La Liga

Real Madrid win El Clásico

Real Madrid climbed to second spot with a 2-1 win against Barcelona in the season’s first El  Clásico  at the Camp Nou.

David Alaba opened the scoring in the 32nd minute with a left-footed strike from the edge of the box. Lucas Vazquez doubled the lead for Real Madrid in injury-time before Sergio Aguero scored his first goal for the Catalan club in the dying seconds of the contest.

Real Sociedad retained top spot with a hard-fought draw against defending champions Atletico Madrid.

Bundesliga

Bayern Munich captain Manuel Neuer reached a milestone of 300 Bundesliga victories in his 447th league game. The defending Bundesliga champions beat Hoffenheim 4-0 at the Allianz Arena. He previously broke the record for the most clean sheets in the league, taking his tally to 207. 

Borussia Dortmund bounced back from their midweek loss to Ajax in the Champions League by comfortably beating Arminia Bielefeld 3-1. Matt Hummels and Jude Bellingham scored spectacular goals in this win.

F1

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen held off a late challenge from Lewis Hamilton to win the US Grand Prix. The Dutch driver’s victory extended his championship lead to 12 points with five races to go.

Hamilton crossed the line just 1.3 seconds behind after one of the most hard-fought races of the season. Red Bull’s Sergio Perez completed the podium.
