Have you ever played a Mario video game and thought, “hmm… I wonder what it would be like to live in this colorful world?” Well, wonder no longer, because thanks to the magic of technology, you are about to become Mareeeoooh.

Super Nintendo World features characters from the Super Mario video games series.

Hold onto your (Mario) hats for this one! Super Nintendo world, a Nintendo games-themed park, is opening in Osaka, Japan, on February 4th, 2021!!! What’s more is that there will be Mario Kart, and it’ll be more realistic than ever.

Owliver’s Obscure Observation: Even though Mario is a Spanish plumber, he was created by the Japanese man, Shigeru Miyamoto.

The theme park is equipped with all sorts of attractions. You can jump to punch question boxes and gather items, and race Bowser, Princess Peach, Luigi, and a host of other characters.

But how is all of this possible?

Well, thanks to six years of hard work, and the genius of the creators of Mario and the creators of Universal Studios theme park, you can now access this one-of-a-kind experience. The theme park is more of physical construction, with massive attractions that resemble the video-games. Bowser’s castle is perhaps the most intricate and gobsmacking of the lot. So, just entering the park is pretty similar to playing the iconic video game that’s been running since the 1980s. Image: CNN

There are plenty of theme parks around the world. Why is this so special?

Well, this experience can be found “Nowhere else in the world” as it has been enhanced with augmented reality technology. You can even buy a band that connects to your phone and helps you collect coins and achievements.

“It will provide the first-ever ‘Asobi’ (play) experience for our guests.”

That means that each visitor wears a Mario hat that has a screen in front of it. The screen adds visuals to what is already see and makes everything seem uncannily similar to the video-game. You can throw mushrooms at your opponent and watch them fly to hit him, and while they’ll see the mushroom, they will also physically jolt in their cars. But no real mushroom was ever thrown: it is all just virtual!!

Owliver’s Obscure Observation: All thanks to the magic of Augmented Reality, every time you return to the theme park, you can play completely new levels of Mario Kart!

Think with Owliver:

Why are we always so eager to plunge ourselves into fictional worlds?
What are the various ways in which we disappear into a fictitious world?
What makes your experience at the theme park any less real than your experience while parking your car to enter the theme park?
