These vending machines take plastic bottles and give out food for strays1 min read
Reading Time: < 1 minuteSomething amazing is happening in Istanbul, Turkey. A company called Pugedon has developed a way to solve two issues that are plaguing the city — plastic waste and the growing numbers of stray dogs and cats. They have set up vending machines all over the city that dispense food and water to stray animals when people use them to recycle plastic bottles.

Istanbul has more than 1,50,000 stray animals and the numbers are only growing. The idea behind this machine is also to make sure the stray animals are fed. The cost from recycling the bottles covers the cost of the dog food.
Recyclers have to put in their bottles at the top. In case the bottles have water, there’s a separate bowl to empty it in. When the bottles are recycled, the machine will then dispense food and water from the bottom.
What a great idea, isn’t it?
