Hamilton’s Mercedes team secured the constructors’ championship for the eighth successive year.

Both the drivers were tied on points going into the final race of the season in Abu Dhabi. Hamilton looked set to clinch the title as he led for majority of the race. However, a restart following a safety car intervention in the final lap,  swung the race in Verstappen’s favour as the Dutchman was on fresh tyres while Hamilton didn’t.

Verstappen ended the season with 10 wins to Hamilton’s eight, having also led more laps and taken more poles and podiums.
